Kado’s origin is Taoist China.  All the Chinese arts that ended with the syllable “dao”at the end of their name were originally meant to bring people to awareness of  their own world in which everything is lead by the laws of universal wisdom.

These Dao-arts were literally intended to work on the transformation of this world by waking up both the artist and viewer to reality through opening their mind to their own intimate relationship to universe wisdom. Therefore a “successful” work of Dao-art was considered to embody the Tao and point directly to the Tao.

The Taoist view challenges all western concepts of “art”.

The view does not uphold art as  individual expressions worthy of high accolades or requiring special talent, but rather expression that originates from the deeper level of human consciousness, that of pre-thought or no thought. Taoists do not separate art as something special and isolated from everyday life but addresses the “art of living” and how everything is in relationship with everything else continuously, and so awareness of relationship is always important.  The Taoist way deals with the whole of nature and the human place in it with the absent of cultural conditionings that keep the separation of self and other doggedly alive.

Kado developed in China over 3000 years ago using living  flower and branch materials  to show the way of life. Kado means “ The Way of Flowers” but is a metaphor for the way of all life. A single flower represents the entire journey from birth to death and beyond with all  innate beings including thoughts and action. The ancient Taoists knew that every form of life on Earth is inherent with innate wisdom.

Humanity for the most part has lost touch with this profound part of our being and therefore continues to created suffering for self and others since almost the very beginning of our existence as a species. But through rediscovering and reuniting  with our inherent universal wisdom, it’s possible to experience life with less confusion, stress, anxiety, conflict, and destruction.

Life could be opened to accurate benevolent solutions as challenges arise in the never ending changes of existence.

With deep understanding and dedicated practice of Kado Ikebana and meditation, it is very possible to become peace. By being peace itself, we can heal major imbalances, both mental and physical created in ourself, towards others, in nature and help restore balance, sanity, and goodness on our planet.
